Dear DeFT Team

For info mainly:

Please find attached an updated Project Briefing that I gave to the standing item on ILF/DeFT at the
Collaboration Sheffield Steering Group on Friday 16th December in my role as Project Lead. Collaboration
Sheffield is the Education strand of the Transformative Change project involving both Sheffield universities,
and it funded the ILF project that was a pilot for DeFT. It is chaired jointly by Sylvia Johnson, Dean of
Faculty at SHU, and (our own) Jackie Marsh, Head of School, TUOS.

Several items of feedback from this:
1.	The group suggested that we target NATE as well as UKLA in our dissemination (see briefing for
our dissemination activity plans). I understand that the TUOS tutors are involved with NATE?
2.	Heads of Education PG provision, Terry Lamb (TUOS) and Niki Elliott (SHU), will meet in January to
discuss the possibility of a joint SHU/TUOS 30 credit PG education module. It is possible that this
overlaps and has associations with the Open Textbook. As you know we are planning Teacher
Education Materials but I am sure we will discuss with our 4 tutors at an appropriate point
3.	The potential overlap with the PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in HE (the staff course) was noted.
I am meeting with Mark Pettigrew who leads the PGCertLTHE at SHU, on Monday 19th Dec to look
at support for their own HEA bid for OER development in the SHU course. Is there an equivalent
course at TUOS that might want to partner this? Note also the ITTE OER project that is also
developing a module for HE teachers that we are associated with as evaluation partners. I will keep
you informed of this.
4.	Collaboration Sheffield is developing Research Briefs on various topics that schools are interested in.
It may be that DeFT develops a research brief on Digital Literacy - to be discussed in the team.
5.	There is a REEF event on 29th February at the Hilton Hotel (12-4) at which ILF/DeFT is expected to
make a short (15 minutes) presentation on what ILF did and what DeFT might at some point make
available to schools. The team's involvement to be discussed.
I am aware that much of this is 'backstage' and I will deal with it but can I ask you to note the existence of
the steering group and their interest? If you need to know anymore let me know.

Regards

Richard
