All contacts have been emailed to give them a heads-up regarding the official letter, however Mark Jones' email bounced back and I have no email for Jo Lawson (to follow up Tue with Julia)
informal approach made by GM : GM chatted to Jenny, still needs to chase up; CB will see Jenny on Saturday and will talk re: OER3. Jenny certainly interested but not entirely sure. I suggest we invite her to the launch event anyway.
update: Jenny Coates emailed on 28 Nov to say she cannot contribute to the project at the moment - CB is working on plan B

GM hasn't approached Jack yet - to follow up, Jack did some innovative work with SEN pupils across the age range. GM has been in touch with the school, but can't seem to get a response from Jack. Currently following up. AG to call Jack on 17 Nov afternoon (I called the school, left a message and also sent an email on 17 Nov). GM emailed Jack 18 November early - Jack is now on board and will be attending on 8 December!
Spoke to Kate today (21/11/2011)Kate is interested in principle- gave her a rough outline of what might be involved. Please can details be emailed to her and sent to HT. Attendance on 8th looked possible.
Have only just met Kate as have started to tutor her for another module. Kate's an enthusiast for using digital media and keen to experiment; was involved in Julia's ESCAL funded PGCERt last year which involved some work exploring possibilities around new media
What kind of Message do we need to give when we first approach schools? Here is my suggestion... with gaps ...

Intro:
This is a Project about Digital Futures and Teacher Education. It is a collaboration between SHU and TUoS. It is a JISC funded project
The aim of this project is to produce an open textbook "Digital Literacy (DL) for Open and Networked Learning" based upon two strands of development that are mutually reinforcing: the first is to create materials for a module accredited by the two partner HEI for trainee teachers on their PGCE courses, in line with the HEA Professional Standards Frameworks and the Professional Standards for Teachers, involving the (re)use of OERs and associated pedagogical design; and the second is to develop guidance on practice in teaching and learning in the school sector involving digital literacy.
We are approaching you because we think you are interested in developing your school's capacity for using technology in new ways and to develop your pupils' digital literacy skills. Your school is identified as a training school/ academy/ CTC etc
Schools will get £1,500. This money is intended to be for training (£500) and £1000 for dissemination. The school will also get 5 days of consultancy.
The commitment we are asking from you is .... I am not sure what we are asking from them
The project will offer your school the following benefits ......
£1500
Support in developing teachers' skills in using new digital technologies in exciting ways
Access to an OER which will provide ideas for teaching and learning (and which you will contribute to)
Involvement in a cutting edge project where you will be collaborating with other schools, 2 Universities, advisors, etc
